SKA - Skaha Dam Fish Ladder

Status:   Active - Operational
Site Type: Adult Fishway  |  Organization: Okanagan Nation Alliance
General Operational Period: Year Round
Start Date: 5/12/2015 12:00 AM

Skaha Lake Dam is located at the southern end of Skaha Lake (t̕uʔcin), where the lake drains into the Okanagan River (sq̓awsitkʷ) in British Columbia. The dam is part of the system that manages water flow and controls the gradient of sq̓awsitkʷ as it moves downstream through Okanagan Falls (sx̌ʷəx̌ʷnitkʷ) toward Vaseux Lake (akspaqmix) and eventually empties into Osoyoos Lake (nk’mip). The primary purposes of the Skaha Lake Dam are water regulation for agricultural irrigation, flood control, and maintaining water levels in the sq̓awsitkʷ system. The dam features a small weir-pool fishway on its western edge, with two IS1001 swim through antennas positioned vertically on fish jumps 2 (downstream) and 5 (upstream).
