SJ2 - SF John Day (Murderer's)

Status:   Active - Non-Operational
Site Type: Instream Remote Detection System  |  Organization: Oregon Dept. of Fish and Wildlife
General Operational Period: Year Round
Start Date: 7/19/2012 12:00 AM

This in-stream monitoring system is located on the South Fork of the John Day River, just south of Dayville, Oregon. It occupies land shared by the PW Schneider Wildlife Management Area, overseen by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW), and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), positioned at the confluence of the South Fork John Day River and Murderers Creek. The system features three strategically placed antennas: one upstream in the South Fork John Day River, another within Murderers Creek, and the third downstream in the South Fork John Day River. The downstream antenna serves as a catchment array for data collected by both the upstream South Fork and Murderers Creek antennas, effectively acting as the downstream detection array for both. The site is powered by a photovoltaic (solar) array. ODFW has been responsible for operating this site, designated SJ2, since 2016. It was originally installed by NOAA in 2010 before being transferred to ODFW.
