OKP - Penticton Channel PIT Array
Status: Active - OperationalGeneral Operational Period: Year Round
Start Date: 11/29/2017 12:00 AM
Penticton Channel, the channelized section of the Okanagan River (sq̓awsitkʷ), connects Okanagan Lake (kłusxnitkʷ) with Skaha Lake (t̕uʔcin) within the city of Penticton, British Columbia. It is the second furthest upstream portion of the system accessible to anadromous fish like sockeye salmon. The PIT array in the channel consists of three 20-ft flat-plate antennas located just north of the former KVR bridge within a 100-m stretch of the channel. These antennas installed in 2017 detect and log the movement of PIT-tagged salmonids. This installation is part of efforts to reintroduce sockeye salmon into their historical range, disrupted by flood control dams built in the 1950s, and the data collected is crucial for understanding environmental impacts and making informed conservation decisions.

Operational History
Operational history describes the period the site was interrogating for PIT tags. The comments provide anecdotal information about the operation of the site during this period. Site operational periods are updated typically at the end of the calendar year.
Configuration
Configuration metadata includes details about the equipment used at the site to detect and record PIT tags. A new configuration sequence record is created when equipment is added or removed from the site and the period of time it was active. A configuration sequence without an End Date is currently active.
