OKC - Okanagan River at VDS-3

Status:   Active - Operational
Site Type: Instream Remote Detection System  |  Organization: Okanagan Nation Alliance
General Operational Period: Year Round
Start Date: 11/6/2009 12:00 AM

The PIT tag array site is located in the Okanagan River (sq̓awsitkʷ) at Road 18, just upstream from Osoyoos Lake (nk’mip). This section of the river is channelized, with VDS used to manage the river gradient. The PIT tag array is situated approximately 30m downstream of VDS 3, where the river spans about 25m in width, allowing nearly full coverage using four 20 ft HDPE antennas. The array is primarily designed to detect adult Sockeye Salmon. During the sockeye migration, water depth ranges from 10 to 24 inches. The optimal detection range for 12-mm PIT tags in pass-by orientation is between 18 and 20 inches, providing high detection efficiency. In March 2017, four additional antennas were installed in a second, upstream array to enhance monitoring capabilities. All eight antennas are connected to an IS1001 MC on the riverbank and powered by AC power.

Operational History

Operational history describes the period the site was interrogating for PIT tags. The comments provide anecdotal information about the operation of the site during this period. Site operational periods are updated typically at the end of the calendar year.

Configuration

Configuration metadata includes details about the equipment used at the site to detect and record PIT tags. A new configuration sequence record is created when equipment is added or removed from the site and the period of time it was active. A configuration sequence without an End Date is currently active.
