Interrogation Site Metadata

MCK - Mouth McKay Creek

Status:   Active - Non-Operational
Site Type: Instream Remote Detection System  |  Organization: Oregon Dept. of Fish and Wildlife
General Operational Period: Seasonally
Start Date: 4/12/2024 12:00 AM

MCK is a seasonally installed pass over type PIT tag array located near the mouth of McKay Creek, a tributary of the Umatilla River. The array is 174 meters upstream from the confluence with the Umatilla River and 103 meters upstream of the McKay Creek weir. There are two antennas associated with this site. Each antenna is a Litz Corded antenna with an IS1001-24V transceiver. The site is only downloaded manually. Antennas are installed in March and operated through mid-July. Prior to 2026, this site had a floating antenna array. ODFW RM&E will be releasing hatchery steelhead marked with PIT tags below McKay Reservoir Dam. The hope is to produce survival estimates to the mouth of McKay Creek and to Three Mile Falls Dam. This information will be used to determine the ability of fish to successfully navigate McKay Creek and help inform funding agencies about the possible modifications needed for fish passage as the ESA listed steelhead reintroduction efforts continue in the McKay Creek Watershed.
