BVC - Beaver Creek, Methow River

Status:   Active - Non-Operational
Site Type: Instream Remote Detection System  |  Organization: Washington Dept. of Fish and Wildlife
General Operational Period: Year Round
Start Date: 1/1/2009 12:00 AM

This is a permanent instream PIT tag interrogation site on Beaver Creek in the Methow River Basin. From 2009 until 2014, the site was located at river kilometer 3 and had 6 antennas in 3 rows. In July 2014, the site was burned over by a wildfire and removed. In March 2015, the site was reinstalled 2 kilometers downstream from the original location. The new site configuration consists of three 10-foot PVC antennas, with each antenna spanning the wetted width of the channel during base flows. There is an upstream, middle, and downstream antenna installed in flat-plate configuration. The antennas are operated by a FS-1001M (MUX) unit. The antennas were built and installed by WDFW. The site is connected to grid power to charge the battery bank powering the detection system. BVC has remote communication abilities provided by a cellular modem and a QuBE datalogger.

4/7/2014 10:09:29 AM General all data uploaded to site as of 3/25/2014 BVC Sporadically down - some point between 3/11/2014 @ 20:50 (tag hit) and 3/13/2014 @ 5:31 (noise report starts up) High noise persists Due to lack of funding, Kyle Martens of the USGS will no longer be responsible for this site. For more information please contact Michael Newsom (MNewsom@usbr.gov).
3/6/2014 7:45:24 AM General BVC Down from 2-20-14 at 10:22 to 2-26-14 at 9:15. Relay issue Reinstalled cable 5 MUX pins and max tuned antenna 5 Out from 1-3-14 at 12:01 to 2-26-14 at 9:20 High noise persists, temporarily shut off main breaker - noise remained high
2/11/2014 11:04:20 AM General Data uploaded from 1/9/14 15:42 through 2/7/14 11:12. Still having high noise at this site.
1/13/2014 1:02:57 PM General data uploaded from 11/1213 through 1/9/14 17:42. Down from 12/22/13 at 4:00am to 1/1/14 11:27. No power to charger. Unplugged, replugged seemed to fix it. Down from 1/3/14 at 12:01 to 1/4/14 at 14:18. Left off purposely for noise troubleshooting, did not help. Ant 5 working intermittently since 1/3/14 at 12:01 (fluctuating sporadically between 0 and 4.9 amps - pins disturbed during MUX swap). Need to fix. Look at BVC13353.A – good noise, what was happening here?! Still have high noise issues. Troubleshooting methods that have not worked: swapped out switcher, charger, and mux. Put charger in separate box away from mux. Insulated batteries better. Swapped out any bad batteries for good batteries.
12/12/2013 8:35:10 AM General Data uploaded from 10/17/13 11:00 through 11/21/13 11:06. Still working on noise at site. we have removed everything piece by piece to isolate the noise with no luck.
