The latest iteration of the PTAGIS PIT tag data entry and management tool, P5, is now available for production use. Built on the foundations of P4, P5 retains a familiar user interface with improvements throughout the application and a simplified installation process.
P5 can be installed and used alongside P4. To make the transition as easy as possible, all Sessions and Configuration Tools can be directly imported from P4. The user interface has been refreshed, but if you are familiar with P4, you should be able to start using P5 with minimal effort.
Some of the new features include:
- A new HPR Bluetooth peripheral device type that provides easier configuration and more stable connectivity. See the HPR Bluetooth page for more information.
- Support for explicitly setting the activation order of Tag Actions when multiple actions are in use. See the Tag Actions page for more information.
- The ability to clear a field value during data entry when using a Tag Action or a Tablet Map. See the Set Multiple Fields Command page for more information.
- A mobile tablet or phone running Android can now be used in place of a digitizer board. The Mobile Tablet Map app functions the same as a digitizer board, except it cannot currently be used to collect fork length. Existing maps can be used as-is and new maps can be built with access to all of the same commands. See the Mobile Tablet Map page for more information.
- A tool to convert lengths from centimeters to millimeters and convert weights from kilograms to grams. This allows researchers tagging adults to collect Length in centimeters and Weight in kilograms, then have P5 convert those values to the PTAGIS standard units of millimeters and grams. See item #23 in the Record Management toolbar for more information.
- Updated length and weight validation to help prevent illogical measurement values in Fork Length and Weight fields. See the Measurement Validation page for more information.
- Submit a support request directly from P5. See the Support Request page for more information.
With the release of P5, P4 has now reached end of life status. We will continue to accept P4 files and provide technical support for at least a year, but no new features will be added to P4. We will work with the PTSC to determine the best time to discontinue the P4 file format.
Questions and comments are always welcome and can now be submitted through the P5 Support Request feature in addition to regular channels.
The P5 installer, online help, and a link to install the Mobile Tablet app can all be found on the P5 page.
