During 2022 and 2023 over 180k interrogation files were submitted to and processed by PTAGIS with observation timestamps that were incorrect by one hour. Specifically, the timestamp itself was correct, but the time zone offset was incorrect. The time zone offset value of -07:00 indicated that the times were collected in Pacific Daylight time, but the time zone offset value should have been -08:00, indicating they were collected in Pacific Standard Time. These interrogation files were submitted for small-scale, instream interrogation sites and were not associated with any large-scale interrogation sites operated by PTAGIS.

The database records and M5 files were corrected in batches from July 23, 2024, through July 30, 2024, with the total number of observation records and files listed below.

  • 5,438,166 observation records
  • 180,394 files

The database corrections increased the observation record timestamps by one hour. For example, if the original timestamp was 1/10/2023 08:00, the corrected timestamp is 1/10/2023 09:00. This can also result in a change to the observation date, e.g. 1/20/2023 23:30 was changed to 1/21/2023 00:30.

The file corrections changed the time zone offset from -07:00 to -08:00 for all timestamps reported in the files. Backups of the original files were saved and will be kept for at least 5 years.

A list of all flies that were corrected and the dates on which they were corrected can be found in the Corrected Files document.
