Using PTAGIS Data

All data stored in PTAGIS are freely available to anyone via the website. Before using the data, you should read and understand the MRR and Interrogation data sections and the Data Policy section in this document.

Definitions for the data fields available to query in PTAGIS can be found in the MRR and interrogation data specification sections.

A variety of sources can be used to view, query, and download PTAGIS data, depending on the level of detail and the specific use that is required.

If you want to look up one or several PIT tag codes to see where they originated and were detected you can use the Complete Tag History quick report; or it you want to look to see what species have been detected at one or several interrogation sites, you can use the Observations or Adult Ladders quick reports.

If you want to query a specific set of fields or retrieve all data associated with a larger group of PIT tags, you should try the Advanced Reporting system.

If you want to build an application to retrieve mark information about a single tag, you should learn about the PTAGIS API.

If you need access to all or a majority of the PTAGIS dataset, you should learn about the data extract files which can be used to build and maintain a mirror copy of the PTAGIS dimensional model.

If you want to view the raw source data, take a look at how to retrieve raw data files from the archive.
