PIT tag data must be submitted to PTAGIS in well-formatted digital files that meet both the data and file specifications described in the Specifications section. Files can be submitted using PTAGIS-developed software, custom software, or as attachments to email messages. Email submissions will be phased out starting in 2019.
When a file is received, it is placed in the queue to be processed for loading. Each file is processed as a unit and is loaded or rejected as a whole. The final processing status of a file is communicated to the data contributor through automated email notifications, notifications in PTAGIS software, and reports.
Files containing MRR data (P3 and P4 files) can be submitted multiple times to allow for edits and/or corrections. When a file is submitted the user must specify the operation to be made on the file: Load or Correct. If a file has never been loaded, the user should select a Load operation. If the file has been previously loaded, the user should select a Correct operation.
Files containing Interrogation data currently cannot be corrected (though this may change in the near future). A Minimon or M4 file will only be loaded once and will not be corrected through the submission process. Procedures are in place to manually correct interrogation files with mistakes or incorrect data. Data contributors should contact PTAGIS staff if they discover an interrogation file with errors.
