EVENT LOG FOR SITE LAP The first line of each entry contains a date/time stamp & who is reporting. The most recent entry is listed first. Date Time Who ---------- ----- -------- 04/11/2011 17:04 Rick January 1, 2010 at 00:00 - Operations normal. January 8, 2010 - High flows during the last week have shifted the position of the thalweg. The antennas no longer cover the thalweg and detectability of PIT tags has almost certainly declined. January 20, 2010 - Flows have decreased to well below historic median averages (flows are currently less than 100 cfs) according to the USGS gauge at the mouth of Lapwai Creek, near Lapwai, ID. The antennas still do not cover the thalweg. April 15, 2010 - Flows have increased and are approaching 100 cfs according to the USGS gauge. The antennas still do not cover the thalweg. April 23, 2010 at 11:25 - DATA COLLECTION HAS STOPPED. Continued high flows have ripped the exciter cables from the antennas. Due to instability of the exciter cables and the shifting of the thalweg, ability to detect passing fish has been compromised. We removed the exciter cables to limit damage to the instream equipment and turned off the FS1001M MUX. Collection will begin again when flows decrease and we are able to repair the exciter cable connections. June 1, 2010 at 15:36 - Data collection begins again. We were able to anchor the exciter cables and supply power to the antennas. The antennas still do not cover the thalweg and detectibility remains low. Flows are near 100 cfs according to the USGS gauge. Despite the movement of the thalweg, water is still flowing over the antennas and limited detection of PIT tagged fish is possible. June 3, 2010 at 00:31 - DATA COLLECTIOIN HAS STOPPED. High flows (over 1000 cfs according to the USGS gauge) ripped the exciter cables from the antennas. June 23, 2010 at 00:00 - The antennas are completely dry due to the repositioning of the thalweg during spring high flows. We plan to reinstall a new interrogation system in the fall of 2010, but currently operations at LAP do not meet the specifications required of interrogation sites. We will report any subsequent detections in 2010 as passively-observed recapture events. The site should be operational as an interrogation site beginning again in 2011. 02/18/2010 11:05 Brian Facility operations and creek conditions have not changed since last site visit.
