Pole seines are nets of approximately 3.2 mm mesh that are strung between two poles approximately 2 meters tall. The full net width is approximately 10 meters but can be rolled up to fit any smaller wetted width. The top line of the net has small floats and the bottom line is weighted. To seine, the pole handlers walk upstream parallel to the bank and each other between two block nets of similar size and construction. When the pole seine approaches the upstream block net the bottom of both nets are brought together and lifted simultaneously scooping fish into either net.
